About my jewelry               About me

Inspiration and concepts:

I am fascinated by the decorative arts and crafts of ancient and classic cultures, and in particular, by the wire-working
techniques used in their jewelry. Motifs, elements and techniques of the jewelry of ancient cultures frequently spark my imagination toward a new design idea, concept or theme that I can translate into a modern idiom.
Many of my designs involve variations on age-old wire-working techniques such as Egyptian spirals, Viking weave,
Kuchi-style coiling, and wire crochet, which I often integrate with semi-precious stones, pearls or crystals.
I strive to create jewelry that is modern, wearable and affordable but at the same time evokes classic and
timeless beauty and elegance.
My ongoing dialogue with clients often inspires new jewelry designs.
When a client requests a variation on one of my designs or describes to me one that s/he envisions,
this often gives rise to new design ideas and new solutions to artistic and technical challenges.

Materials:

Metals: Much of my jewelry is made with one (or both) of two types of wire:

Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. The copper increases the hardness and durability of the metal.

14/20 karat gold-filled wire is made by forming a tube of 14 karat gold and filling it with a base metal,
usually jewelers’ brass, in a complex fusing process involving heat and pressure. It should not be confused
with gold plating (in which a thin layer of gold is applied to base metal in a dipping process).
Gold-filled wire contains 100 times more gold than gold-plated wire. It is highly durable and attractive and with normal
use will last for generations without tarnishing, showing signs of wear or losing its sheen.
Most people who are metal-sensitive will not have allergic reactions to gold-filled jewelry.

Gold-filled wire is available in both the traditional yellow gold color and also in a rose gold color.
I usually create my gold-filled wire designs in the yellow gold color; rose gold is available on order.

Unique, individually handcrafted jewelry

Each piece of my jewelry is individually handcrafted; thus each is unique. This means that when I replicate a design
featured on this web site, the new piece will inevitably differ slightly from the original.
Some pieces are one-of-a-kind; others may be limited editions.
The photographs on the site are chosen to reflect the true colors of each jewelry item;
however, settings on viewers' computer screens may cause variations from the true colors.
